Last Sunday, Cecilia and I took a day trip to NYC to catch the opening day of ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) and some other design events happening in the city during NYCxDesign. As ICFF wraps up we'd like to share with you Ceci's favorite exhibited pieces for kids only! As usual with our bilingual posts you can find the English version below, Enjoy!

ICFF Kids

The philosophy that moves us, at The Empty Apartment is about understanding history, studying our past to understand where we are headed. This is why on Sunday we did a quick trip to New York to visit the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF). Which are the latest tendencies, and how does the industry redesigns the classics.

We'll have several blog entries on ICFF with this one I'd like to begin with a focus on children. The Brazilian company Cia do Móvel exhibited a production made for the company Plataforma4 which had a clear reminiscence to Scandinavian design. Their furniture pieces are assembled and can be adjusted according to the child's growth with additional pieces.

A wonderful discovery for us was Wooden Story, a Polish company that makes furniture and toys out of wood. So simple, with clean lines and an artisanal look that was enchanting.

I've seen wooden toy kitchens in homes where there are little girls as well as only little boys. This is the case for my friend Cristina who has 3 boys and in her kitchen, you can find a miniature kitchen where her boys play while she prepares them delicious Spanish dishes. This German kitchen by Verneuer is as it's mission states, based on 3 fundamental principals: natural, organic and ecological, we loved it.

For those who know me, Mexico plays a very special place in my heart. It's a country that hosted me for 5 years of my life and where both my children were born. It is with great enthusiasm with which I found the exhibition of Mexa Design. Mexa, besides having a collection of design pieces representative of Mexican design like the Acapulco chair, in 3 presentations: leather, chord, and cable, they also had a collaboration with Kinder Modern of children designs.

It's always interesting to see what's new, but this show also reinforces the idea of how influential that past is on the present. What did you think? Let us know!
